INSHORE YACHTMASTER DIPLOMA

For pleasure crafts

The holder has shown sufficient theoretical knowledge of how to navigate a pleasure craft in Swedish waters in daylight and good visibility on voyages within 3 nautical miles of the nearest sheltered place, as well as how to show good seamanship.

The test has been taken in accordance with NFB’s knowledge requirements for the Inshore Yachtmaster Diploma.

PRACTICAL BOAT TRANING DIPLOMA – Day

The holder has performed the following:

  1. Safety review of the vessel’s safety and emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, fire blanket, bilge pump, leak sealing material, first aid kit, emergency lighting kit, lifeboat, life raft, rescue ladder, life buoy, VHF/DSC, etc.)
  2. Review and instruction/demonstration of personal safety equipment (life vest, clothing, mobile phone in waterproof case).
  3. Reading a chart, pointing out physical objects marked on a chart and vice versa.
  4. Steering by compass, towards a defined leading mark and by leading line.
  5. Navigation in marked and uncharted waters.
  6. Perform a position fix without the use of electronic navigation aids.
  7. “Man overboard” manoeuvre, recovering fender or similar.
  8. Manoeuvres to demonstrate rudder and propeller effects.
  9. Perform the following knots: Clove hitch, round turn and two half hitches, bowline.
  10. Mooring and unmooring, including use of a spring
  11. Confirmation of current in flowing water by observation of buoys etc.

COASTAL YACHTMASTER DIPLOMA

The holder has shown satisfactory knowledge of the regulation for the prevention of collisions at sea, navigation in sheltered and open waters, seamanship, ship’s documents, electronic aids, safety, meteorology, first aid, the environment, and other subjects. 

The Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma is compulsory according to Swedish regulations to master a Swedish pleasure yacht with a length over all of at least 12 meters, and a width over all of at least 4 meters (12*4). Practical boat training has been carried out.

The test was taken in accordance with NFB’s knowledge requirements for the Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma.

PRACTICAL BOAT TRANING DIPLOMA – Darkness

The holder has performed the following:

  1. Safety review of the vessel’s safety and emergency equipment (fire extinguisher, fire blanket, bilge pump, leak sealing material, first aid kit, emergency lighting kit, lifeboat, life raft, rescue ladder, life buoy, VHF/DSC, etc.)
  2. Review and instruction/demonstration of personal safety equipment (life vest, clothing, mobile phone in waterproof case).
  3. Planning and selection of suitable charts for intended passage.
  4. Navigating the vessel in channel lit by lights.
  5. Identification of lights by their light characteristics as well as identification of floating sea marks by their reflecting marks or light characteristics.
  6. Use of sector boundaries (w/r and w/g) when navigating.
  7. Demonstration of difficulties with estimating distances in darkness.
  8. Use of modern navigational aids (e.g., navigator or similar electronic navigational aid, radar)
  9. Position fixing when underway in darkness.
  10. Perform the following knots: Clove hitch, round turn and two half hitches, bowline.
  11. Participation in mooring and unmooring.

BOAT MECHANIC DIPLOMA

The Boat Mechanic Diploma covers the knowledge required to rectify simple faults in the engine and other installations. In the test, the holder has shown satisfactory knowledge of the functioning of engines and electrical systems together with maintenance and fault-finding, as well as proficiency in carrying out simple repairs to current engine installations.

The test was taken in accordance with NFB’s knowledge requirements for the Boat Mechanic Diploma.

OFFSHORE YACHTMASTER DIPLOMA

The Offshore Yachtmaster Diploma covers the knowledge and proficiency required to undertake a passage in a pleasure craft in continental coastal waters. In the test, the holder has shown satisfactory knowledge of navigation in continental coastal waters and inland waterways, tidal flows, meteorology, safety, ship’s documents, first aid, seamanship, equipment, crew members and other subjects.

The test was taken in accordance with NFB’s knowledge requirements for the Offshore Yachtmaster Diploma.

CANAL DIPLOMA

The Canal Diploma, in conjunction with the SRC, Inshore Yachtmaster Diploma or Coastal Yachtmaster Diploma and the Practical Boat Training Diploma, entitles the holder to travel on inland waterways in Europe. Sufficient knowledge has been shown in the content of areas regulated by CEVNI, and in accordance with resolution No. 40 of the work group on inshore waterways within the UN Economic Commission for Europe.

RADAR DIPLOMA

For pleasure crafts

The Radar Diploma covers theoretical and practical knowledge of radar navigation and its use on passage. In the test, the holder has shown satisfactory knowledge and abilities of the principles of radar, passage planning and the theory and practice of radar navigation, including plotting.

The test was taken in accordance with NFB’s knowledge requirements for the Radar Diploma.

HANDLING DIPLOMA

For high-speed boats

The Handling Diploma covers the knowledge necessary for driving and handling of high-speed planing boats. In the test, the holder has shown satisfactory knowledge and skills in the practical handling of high-speed boats exceeding 25 knots, regulations for the prevention of collision at sea, power trim, use of trim tab, safety, the environment, and other subjects.

The test was taken in accordance with NFB’s knowledge requirements for the Handling Diploma for high-speed boats.

YACHTSMAN´S DIPLOMA

The holder has demonstrated such practical proficiency, in accordance with the requirement laid down by the NFB for the award of Yachtsman’s Diplomas, as to show that he/she can be expected, without assistance, to be capable of:

YACHTSMAN´S DIPLOMA 1

Handling a small sailing craft in sheltered waters in good weather conditions.

YACHTSMAN´S DIPLOMA 2

Handling a yacht under power and under sail in sheltered waters in variable weather conditions.

YACHTSMAN´S DIPLOMA 3

Handling a large cruising yacht under power and under sail in sheltered or open waters in variable weather conditions.

SRC, SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE

(VHF CERTIFICATE)

The certificate is international and entitles the holder to operate the international maritime VHF band. Moreover, the certificate also entitles the holder to use DSC equipment on VHF. In the test, the holder has shown satisfactory knowledge in accordance with the requirements stipulated in document ITU RR Resolution 343 and CEPT/ERC Recommendation 31/04.

LRC, LONG RANGE CERTIFICATE

(VHF, MF AND HF CERTIFICATE)

The certificate is international and entitles the holder to operate the international maritime VHF, MF and HF bands. Moreover, the certificate also entitles the holder to use DSC equipment on these bands. In the test, the holder has shown satisfactory knowledge in accordance with the requirements stipulated in document ITU RR Resolution 343 and CEPT/ERC Recommendation 31/04.s.
